Advanced tactics tutorial
You’re good at outrunning the cops, but at some point they just take overhand? Worry not! Here’s how to play like a pro!
Spoilers ahead
If you want to discover things yourself, play the game first and at your pace, come back later :)
The Basics
SneakingHold shift key while walking to avoid making noises when on gravel or having wet feet. You need to decide when to sneak and when to run. Even more important in multiplayer team play, where you making noise could disclose the whole group.
Hiding in a bushHit space bar to hide in a bush to avoid getting caught by the police. Only works when not in plain sight. You can run around a corner, and just when in cover and out of sight, you can hide using the space bar.
Hiding in the shadowsShadows grant to you a tactical advantage because the police won’t see you. However, they can hear you, so be sure to sneak on gravel or with wet feet. Used right, shadows are a rather safe place to be outside home, and they are even more useful in case you run out of bushes. |
Traps: the sewers
Use the sewer opener. Throw a can to attract the cops. Hide and enjoy the show. |
Traps: using the tape
At first glance, the tape doesn’t seem to do much. But as it turns out, it’s one of the strongest items in the game, enabling you to get high scores and master Team Play.
How does it work? Essentially, when you put a tape in a corridor, the police will respect the tape and not cross it. Because, you know, you’re not supposed to cross these ;)
What is it good for? With the tape, you can essentially control where the cops are on the game board. Ultimately, you can throw a can into an open room and when everybody is inside, seal the room off using a tape. The police won’t cross the tape whatsoever.
How to put a tape? You can put a tape in any gap which got a solid wall or closed door to both sides. You can not put a tape in an open doorway, use a key for that.
Keys, Doors and the Jackhammer
The procedural generator produces a variety of different level layouts. Some of them have choke points, that is, there is only one way leading from the left side of the board to the right side. See the green line. Cops will use this path a lot and it is hard for you to get to the other side.
This is where the keys and the Jackhammer excel. In this case open up a second path through the doors, see the red line! The blue square marks a spot where using the Jackhammer is a good idea: it opens up a third path. This one happens to be in the shadows, which is a huge bonus to go unnoticed in the center of the board.
Sewers are wormholes
Besides Sewers being an obvious trap for the cops, they act like wormholes for you. So if stuck on the right side of the map, consider opening up a sewer to go home underground. Especially effective in Team Play, when your teammates are arrested at home. Edit: in recent versions, sewers connect to each other, and only sometimes to home.

After the new update, not all sewers connect to the home. When you open a sewer, it should show which other sewer it is connected to. (see the sound wave)
just a note ;)
Yep, thanks for the hint ;)
